Shabbat Message July 4, 2024

This is Rabbi Harrison and this is my first of what I hope will be many messages to you – our beloved Temple Beth Hillel-Beth Abraham Family. I am joined by Rabbi Bleefeld & Merrie, and Cantor Marlena & Uri.

The Greek philosopher Heraclitus wrote the now familiar adage “change is the only constant in the world.” Still, change can be difficult. It requires being open to something new and different while letting go of something familiar. It strikes me as fitting that my first week with TBHBA is the same week we celebrate America’s Independence Day, a day that marks the courage of those that envisioned this country and brought it to fruition. Talk about being open to bold change!

Judaism demands we balance the keva, the familiar, fixed traditions, with our kevanna, the spontaneous yearnings and adaptations we each bring to the table. Together – the familiar & the new, when blended have the potential to create sparks of holiness for all of us.

Shabbat shalom u’mevorach – a blessed and peaceful Shabbat – to you, my new friends!
